People have asked on more than 1 occasion, how in the world can I continue to be interested in parasitical headlice and not something more palatable. To these folks I ask why they think all those erectile dysfunction, women’s monthly products, yeast infections, body odor and so many more personal problems and products are advertised so much on the television. The answer of course is that there is a serious need for information on these problems.

The same is for those blood sucking parasites known as head lice. Pediculosis is the official name for the louse animal but the fact is that few if any people die of a louse infestation. In actuality, the little buggers are much more of an annoyance and can cause severe itching that can in turn create serious problems if not treated.

There are many treatments on the market today to help deal with head lice. Most are insecticide based shampoos that are used in several treatments to get rid of the bugs. Although there are many people claim that the insecticide based products have caused a kink of super louse to develop with a resistance to the poison, most of these treatments fail because the user didn’t follow the instructions.

So the question may come up,  where do head lice come from and how do I keep from getting them in my hair?

The absolute best way to treat louse is not to get them in the first place. With winter fast approaching with the wooly scarves and hats being used in much of the country, it’s important to remind your children NOT to share or try on anyone else’s hats or scarves no matter how cold. This is the primary way lice can move from one host to another.
