Now before you go screaming out the door itching your head , realize that head lice or Pediculus, are a natural part of having an organic body. For those of your who think natural is so wonderful, this should please you. (sorry mom) For the rest of us however, it gives us little comfort knowing that we're a living host to blood sucking parasites!

There are actually loads of parasitical animals running all through your body, many of which are quite beneficial. How about the Lactobacillus acidophilus bacteria? It lives and blooms in your intestines and actually keeps you healthy.

Unfortunately, body, pubic and head lice are not such animals. These critters are blood sucking parasites with no redeeming qualities for the host....that's you, me or anyone else that could get infested with lice.

No bodily problem makes more people uncomfortable however than head lice.  Maybe it's the fact that they can be seen and hair moving because of the bugs in it can be more than a little unnerving. Pediculosis by the way is the 3 dollar word that means an infestation of lice on a person. 

You should try to find out where did they come from?  It's not enough to just see the lice than work  the treatment plan.  No, it's important to try to find where they were picked up in the first place.  This is important because if you don't know where they get the lice and the first place, they might just to back and pick them up again. 

Unlike body lice where a person can literally brush up against someone and make a transfer, head lice typically means some type of direct contact through sharing a brush, comb or hat.  Although unlikely, it's possible to transfer head lice through almost any infected item such as a scarf, a stuffed animal or even a simply hug where heads touch.

There are actually three types of lice come into the human being.

1.         Head Lice        Known As Pediculus Humanus Capitis


2.         Body Louse      or the Pediculus Humanus Humanus


3.         Crab Lice         and the not so favorite Phthirus Pubis
 
Crab lice are seen to be closely related to teenagers.  Crab lice, or pubic lice is a parasite that looks a lot like a crab and is a specially designed to move about course more widely spaced hair.  Although called pubic lice, these bloodsuckers can be found in eyebrows, beards and even underarm hair. 

Body lice or scabies looks a lot like a rash.  It's only on close inspection that a body louse can be seen. 

Although the number of infestations, were people who have lice seems to be growing, there's also effective treatment programs that make a case of Pediculus not much more than an annoyance and inconvenience.
