natural remedies for headlice

Natural Remedies for Headlice Direct from the Web.

Natural remedies for headlice are all over the Internet.  Heck, everything it seems is all over the web.  Well meaning people promising that they have the cure for everything from bumps to parasites to even cancer.  Friends, the days of the covered wagon and the charlatan pushing tonics may be gone but the same mentality of promising cures for anything that ails us is alive and well.

See if you can see any commonality going through this list of different ingredients.  These are ingredient lists for head lice natural cures found on the web.  These are well meaning but somewhat naive consumers who posted their natural remedies.  These were found on the web with every single one claiming to work great.

While some have a basis in fact and a case can be made that they work, most should simply be filed under urban legend natural cures.

You know, somewhere, sometime, somebody used this as a cure for lice and also claimed it worked though if you continue to look on the web, more people will claim it doesn't….in any event, here's a list of the most popular lice remedy cure ingredients.

The common thing to realize is that there is someone out in the world who claims all these things work to rid someone of lice.  Problem is that just as many if not more will claim they tried it and the remedy wasn't effective or didn't work at all.  This is the problem with testimonials and demonstrates the importance of research.

This is also why simply cannot trust testimonials and information found just anywhere on the Internet.  Many of these cures are based on the discredited idea of smothering the lice bugs by coating them in an oily material such as peanut butter, mayonnaise, olive oil, etc.   that you can smother lice by coating in oil.  It doesn't seem to matter that research has shown that lice can live over 8 hours completely submerged in water without any air.

This fact alone should make anyone cautious of using many of these home remedies.  Problem is that many of us have become distrustful of established research and medical care that we ignore the good information along with the bad.

Did you also see that some of these ideas are also dangerous to your health?  How about that dog shampoo one?  DOG SHAMPOO is for DOGS and contains strong insecticides to kill fleas and ticks.  Yes, it will also kill lice but may cause serious injury.

Lastly, take a look at the ingredients for several of the headlice cures that include alcohol and nail polish remover.  Head Lice bite into the scalp to cause sores that bleed because they live on the blood.  Ever have an open wound and pour alcohol into it?  Now imagine the pain from a sore scalp when you use alcohol as a Natural remedy for headlice.  Not a good idea is it?

The thing to remember is that while many home remedy solutions for a variety of ailments and conditions do work, you need to use common sense and care before jumping to just anything found on the web.  Don't check your brain off at the door.
