Home Remedies for Lice

Home Remedies for Lice Range from Effective to Simply Stupid

Believe it or not, home remedies for lice resources and information are all over the web. The problem is that much of it is hearsay or simply inaccurate. There are many options from prescription shampoos to wild ideas like coating hair in peanut butter!

As we've been working to control parasitical problems for centuries, it simply makes sense that there are many remedies based on folklore and what people had on hand over the years.

You can feel confident however that you can attack and win this ongoing battle with a louse infestation if only because it's so common for so many of us to deal with. Home remedies for lice seem to be a dime a dozen when searching the web. The fact is that there are many ways to get rid of lice but you will need to focus on what you want to tolerate.

Realize that many people stating claims of wonderful results are NOT saying their method will work for you. They only stay that their particular method worked for them

Active treatment of these parasites is required if you truly want to be rid of them. This means not only dealing with the infestation on the head but also cleaning up any secondary sources of re-infestation. While there a few hair salons that specialize in the treatment and removal of louse, these are mainly in the larger cities throughout the world. The expense and effort required is not trivial and in the end, a lot of the work at home still needs to be done by you.

Just because you may be able to locate a service that can provide treatment, you still have the problem of secondary sources. Lice can live for a few days off a person and will be looking for someone to infect. So even though you or your child's hair is completely free of the bugs, not cleaning hair ornamentation, combs etc. along with bedding can result in a re-infestation.

Below is a Suggested Home Cure found on the web and an option to limit re-infestation. Note that the home cure is one claimed to be effective but has probably not been researched.

Home Cure Number 1: Peanut Butter

No, this isn't a joke. People have claimed that using peanut butter in your hair will kill the headlice. Interestingly enough, this is the same basic idea where olive oil etc. are used to smother the bugs. Once again, the problem is that peanut butter does NOT kill the bugs but may immobilize them for easier removal…. Assuming you can deal with the mess.

Using so called cures such as this also usually requires that the food product be left in you hair overnight. While home remedies for lice such as these may be considered natural, the fact that they usually require such a long treatment time is a problem especially for small children. Not only do they have bugs in their hair but now have food AND are wrapped in plastic or wearing a plastic shower cap! It's to much for even many adults to bear.

Home Cure Idea Number 2: Disinfect Combs - Brushes and All Hair care Tools

While you're at it, also consider dipping all combs, brushes and the like into the same disinfectant chemicals.

There's a reason why professional hair stylists are required to keep their combs in a disinfectant rinse and everyone that has had a problem should do the same. It only makes sense when you realize that sharing brushes and combs along with hats are the major culprits to louse infections. This is one method that you basically have to do if you want the lice to be gone forever rather than coming back again.

All home remedies for lice no matter the product cannot completely eliminate re-infestation. This is why it's critical for you to focus not only on the bugs you see but take preventative measures by thoroughly cleaning things that can increase the risk of getting the problem back.

A Good Clean Up TIP

You can increase the chance of completely removing all traces of the bugs no matter if you use commercial over the counter insecticide products, drug store shampoo, insecticide based store shampoo, prescription shampoos or a milder and safer natural solution as long as you go the extra step and do a full comb out with a specialized nit comb.

Nit combing and picking is slow but it's still the best way to check hair thoroughly for any signs of infestation. Almost all of the home remedies for lice at the very least suggest taking the time to carefully inspect the hair using a nit comb.

There are many Lice Home Remedies for Killing Head Lice that promise cures that don't deliver. The home remedies for lice work better at least emotionally when you know and can see that the lice have all been killed.

There would be less chance of missing any parasites and you could end up with a much easier time to rid yourself of the problem bugs. Wouldn't you sleep much easier knowing that your home remedy or cure actually did get rid of the infestation?
