Head Lice Remedies

Head Lice Remedies from the Web May NOT Work!

While it can seem overwhelming at times, it really isn't that difficult to locate potential head lice remedies. Parasites live off our bodies. These bugs, while a nuisance are not really dangerous as they don't carry disease. They have been around for centuries and will probably be with us forever.

The battle against these bugs has allowed us to know how to effectively control and kill the louse no matter how serious the infestation. Locating effective head lice remedies in an ocean of information is difficult at best. The biggest problem is that many people simply post personal experiences, which are great but leave a lot to be desired when searching for something that actually works.

If you want to get rid of these bugs, you really need to go on the offensive. From attacking the infestation to removing any possibility of a live egg lurking to re inhabit a family head, all must be done aggressively to be effective. A natural or home remedy for headlice infection is almost a given as there are few places where you can go for effective treatment.

Though there are some special salons in New York and other larger cities that specialize in treatments, the fact is that dealing with lice infestation and treatments is a home or do it yourself effort for most of us.

It doesn't matter if you buy an over the counter product, order a natural solution or remedy, or even go to the doctor for a prescription to deal with the problem. All require you to take an active role in cleaning up the headlice.

Below is a Suggested Home Cure found on the web and an option to limit re-infestation. Note that the home cure is one claimed to be effective but has probably not been researched.

Home Cure Number 1: Olive Oil

clown

This is a popular home remedy found in many forums. It's based on the idea that oil makes the lice have a more difficult time holding on. The claim is that it also works to loosen the glue that holds nits to the hair follicle. If the infestation isn't to bad, this may be a way to help with killing the louse and to get rid of the problem without chemicals.

Using so called cures such as this also usually requires that the food product be left in you hair overnight. While treatments such as these may be considered natural, the fact that they usually require such a long treatment time is a problem especially for small children. Not only do they have bugs in their hair but now have food AND are wrapped in plastic or wearing a plastic shower cap! It's to much for even many adults to bear.

Home Cure Idea Number 2: Disinfect Combs - Brushes and All Hair care Tools

Being especially cautious with hair decorations like bobby pins, ribbon, headbands etc. can go a long way to lowering the risk of another headlice outbreak. Sharing hair care tools like brushes are a major suspect in contracting and spreading these pests, you will want to seriously deal with the possibility of lice waiting around on your brush to cause more problems.

This does take some work but should be considered extra safety insurance to remove any left over bugs. Although the head lice remedies may kill all the bugs, removing any stuck nits or nymphs can be handled with this method.

A Good Clean Up TIP

In the end, it doesn't matter if you decide to try over the counter insecticide products, drug store shampoo, insecticide based store shampoo, prescription shampoos or one of the many home remedies found on the web claiming success, a little nit picking with a special comb goes a long way.

Nit combing and picking is slow but it's still the best way to check hair thoroughly for any signs of infestation. Almost all of the head lice remedies at the very least suggest taking the time to carefully inspect the hair using a nit comb.

The head lice remedies work better at least emotionally when you know and can see that the bugs have all been killed. While actually being able to see that all the lice, nits and nymphs are gone is a big emotional benefit, it doesn't mean your home is free from the problem. You will also need to continue to be on the lookout for several weeks just to be certain that a re-infestation doesn't occur.

Oh and the reality is that while there are commercial products that are both insecticide and natural disintectant oil based, essentiall all should really be considered Home Remedies for Lice. after all, YOU have to do all the shampooing and nit picking yourself, right?
