While good head lice treatments have developed over the last 20 years the number of cases of headlice cases has also definitely increased. Three of the most popular insecticide-based products are Pyrethrins, Malathion, and Kwell. These products have been shown to be very effective in killing head lice but are by no means foolproof. The key getting rid of head lice then is to use a multiple approach of shampooing per instructions, repeating as directed, combing to remove nits, and cleaning the home area to prevent re infestation.

Some parents have reported that even insecticide based products are not effective and assume insecticide resistant lice are to blame. Most of the time the problem is that the directions were not followed correctly. The most common mistakes are not repeating the shampoo treatment after seven to 10 days or using enough product in the lice treatment.

If the idea of using insecticides and chemicals on your child's hair is distasteful, you can find a product on this site that is both natural and effective.
