Head lice

Stay on the Offensive Against Blood Sucking Head Lice!

Make no mistake, Lice of the head, body and pubic type are blood sucking bugs that will make your life miserable if left to propagate and grow on your family and in your home. A louse is a parasite that lives on your body, usually in your hair. A female louse can lay as many as 200 eggs in a single month. Eggs hatch in about a week and in another week after that, you can have as literally hundreds of lice in your hair, on your body or in your pubic area. The pre-adult and adult louse needs to drink blood from the host (you or your family) to live.

Okay, now stop that scratching and saying ICK! and read on.

Louse or lice are very easily transmitted through direct contact. Sharing of a comb or hairbrush can send the little buggers into a brand new head of hair. While they can be difficult to completely eradicate, they are little more than an uncomfortable nuisance and have not been linked to transmitting disease.

Louse cannot jump far or fly. The majority of outbreaks are usually found in schools and day care centers. Both places are well known for sharing personal items. The biggest problem with head louse are they propagate or infest so rapidly. Although only living a few days off a person, that's more than enough to wait for a ride to another host.

If you or a family member have lice, it's not enough to simply remove them from the infected persons scalp. You need to go on the offensive to eliminate the possibility of any living louse eggs or nymphs regardless of the location. This means that whole closets of clothing may need washed, all stuffed animals or furry toys need treated, along with bedding, combs, etc. Failure to aggressively attack the problem can result in a re infestation in as little as a month.

Scabies or body lice is an infestation on the skin caused by a mite named Sarcoptes scabei. This, like head lice is a common parasite found throughout the world. Parasites know no economic class and status doesn't matter. Scabies spreads rapidly under crowded conditions where there is frequent skin-to-skin contact between people.

In the end, we're destined to suffer with the annoyances and effects of parasites. Although intestinal parasites and bugs can be a problem, the most common of all is the blood sucking louse.
