Body design of an adult louse is a lot like a very small ant. Its body consists of a head a thorax and abdomen which can be from white to grayish white in color and having six legs.

Females typically lay their eggs sac very close to the scalp. These eggs or nit's can be seen with the naked eye and will hatch in about seven days or sometimes a bit more. She will keep laying eggs for about a month making certain you have lots of reasons to scratch your head. The females typically lay anywhere from 90 to over 200 eggs during her short 30 day lifespan.

Head Louse LifeSpan
Three stages of head louse life are called it's lifespan. The head louse spends about a month or so eating and drinking in your hair before dying to make room for the next generation. Here's the 3 stages of life for lice...

Nit or egg. Although quite small, careful inspection will reveal that louse and nits are very much different than dandruff or other flaking. These are firmly attached to the hair follicle and cannot be removed easily

Nymph or pre-adult head lice. The nymph has the same appearance as an adult louse, but is much smaller. In about a week, a nymph will grow to full adult size. Female lice are typically bigger than males at all live on human blood taken from the scalp.

and Adult .

If you come in contact with someone who has been infected with head louse, you can easily become a host yourself. The reason is that if a nit, nymph, or adult, should fall off the infected person's head, the parasite will be very happy living on the next human that comes their way. Although there are many home head louse treatment options, many have a 50% failure rate or higher.

Head-to-head contact is their main source of spreading which means borrowing a friend's hat or comb can easily spread the head louse parasites to you.
